Evaluation Question 4

Throughout the whole process of creating a variety of diffeent real media texts i have developed on existing skills aswell as learnt a whole new wealth of knowledge. I have used different programmes and different softwraes in order to create the music video. Above are some f the different softwares programmes and websites which i have used in order to get to this stage. As i have completed the AS level along with the A2 this has been an extremly diffcuilt learning curve. As a whole group we did not hve uch experince with softwares such as Photoshop or Design therfore learning to function these softwares in order tocreate our media texts was an extremly difficuilt. Not only is the software alot more sophisticated but a great depth of knowlege is required in order to use it effectively.
From the above screen shots it is clear that a large variety of our media texts have been created through the use of Photoshop and design. This is becuase the editing of the music video was all completed on Design where as the ceation of the digipack and the marketing materialsuch as the poster for our album was created on photoshop.Using the AppleMac was a huge jump in the sense of the majority of the group had not even seen a iMac before let alone use one. Personally the editing of the music video was maybe the most diffcuilt task. This is simply becuase not only was the technolagy completely new to us but the functioning of the programme was alot more complex in comparison to anything which we had ever used before. Moreover the editing stage of the video took over 20-30 hous itself.
we used other websites such as Vimeo and later Youtube to exploit our creation. Not only did this introduce us to whoe new side of networking and video sharing but it also showed us how the weboste could be used as a tool for feedback purposes. the response we gained from Youtube was extremly positive, morover the response we recieved was extremly encouraging as we gained mostly positive feedback and only constructive suggestions. Facebook also helped us as it allowed us to share our ideas with friends and family during pre production. this was extremly usefull as certain changes where recommended which later proved to work really well.
Overall indvidually and as a group we have used a range of diffeent technoalgies to create the finished piece. for example during the preprodyuction facebook was used majorly just to ensure our target audience are happy with what we are setting out to do. Morover during production iMac softwares helped us create the finished piece and finally during evaluation stages Youtube and vimeo have helped us gain feedback and various siggestions in order to make the finished piece as good as it is.

Evaluation Question 3

After production was complete we posted our video onto Vimeo, however after seeing very little success we agreed we should actually post the video to a website where we could gain more attention. Having 1 billion hits a day we agreed YouTube would be the ideal website to exploit our product simply because the webpage has a humongous customer base and our target audience is the avid user of YouTube. Moreover looking at the success of other A2 Media projects we where convinced our video will be abe to reach out to wider audiences by using Youtube.

From the statistics graph from Vimeo we can clearly see that the video is frequently watched. However it is clear only a small number of people have watched the video. in 4 months the video has had over 150 views however as a group we did expect a much bigger response simply because the song was extremely current, it was continuously played in the charts therefore more people where aware of the song. however as a group we did later decide the video will have to be posted to youtube in order to see some progression.

the video has been posted on youtube for approximately 4 weeks. We can see the dramatic difference in the number of views simply because what we achieved from Vimeo in 4 months we have done more then that in a single month on youtube. Not only does this go to show our target market is more likely to be on Youtube over Vimeo but the Youtube platform has helped us achieve a much better response. This just goes to show our video has bags of potential and with some more time the video should have allot more views.
From the feedback we can see or efforts have been appreciated and people genuinely tend to like our media text. Moreover it is clearly that the way the music video has been constructed it is inline with both our narrative and treatment therefore individuals can relate to the production with ease. more importantly there are certain things which our audience have raised issues about. things such as the fact that there where only two main locations in the entire song was something of concern. this is simply because the song runs over 4 minutes however we have only used two locations. 1 being the bedroom scene and the other the set. our audiences have recommended changes such as each actress should have her own specific location as-well as a platform which they all share. not only will this interject there own personal identities better but this will also help the audience show the difference between individual. the two things that we would change as a group are the locations and finally we would increase the use of mise en scene. this is simply because we have come to know over the entire span of the video we have used very little locations therefore to keep the audience focused and to keep them interested a change of locations and visuals is required. Therefore if we ever where to make the video again this is something we would consider.

A2 Music video Pitch Group 1 from Sidney Stringer on Vimeo.

Above is the pitch conducted by two members of our group explaining the concept, treatment and narrative of our music video. This video was recorded during pre-production. Watching this video now in comparison to the media text we have produced it is clear we have actually done what we set out to do. moreover the improvements recommended by the remaining media students have also been taken into account as certain elements where changed during ore production in order to product the best production possible.

Evaluation Question 2

Evaluation Question 1

A shot the shows a link between lyrics and visuals

The first shot is a clear link between the lyrics and the visuals. At this point of the song the lyrics are ‘hold me like a pillow’. This is exactly what the actress on screen is doing as she is holding the pillow while singing to the song. Not only does this show the various feeling and emotions but this also shows the audience she actually wants someone to hold her making the narrative slightly more clear.

A shot that typifies the way in which a record company would like there artist to be represented.

The shot shows one way in which a music company would like there artist to be represented. Looking at artists such as Beyonce, Nicole Scherzinger and many more it is clear that these labels and studios want there artists to be represented in the best possible manner. This could be in the sense of looks, there ability to act, dance and perform. The shot clearly shows a robust performance by the actress.

A shot that illustrates how the music video uses music genre

The shows a sequence in which all three of the actresses are performing together. This clearly shows that the music video is a take on RnB and dance music. This is simply because if they where performing balle then it would be more likely that they would be dancing to classic music. This just shows that the type of dance typifies the type of music being used.

A shot that shows an intersexual reference

The shot shows all three girls performing upon stage as a proper band. This is similar to the way in which a girl band will be expected to dance together upon stage. The music video refers to this whole idea of a band upon stage by the use of this shot.

A shot that demonstrates your use of camera

Throughout the music video it is clear a range of different shots have been used. This screen shot concentrates on just one. The shot shows the audience of a stereotypical habit of women at such ages by showing the actress standing in front of a mirror and applying makeup.

A shot that demonstrates your use of lighting

The screen shot shows all thee girls dancing upon stage coherently. Once again not only is this an intersexual reference to the way in which a girl band will perform but this also fits in with both the narrative and the treatment set for the music video. The shot shows a great use of light as the colour changes on every movement of the band. Moreover the colours connote different things such as the red showing them to be sexy and seductive where as the blue reflects them being cool.

A shot that demonstrates your use of mise en scene

The shows the different props used to create the narrative and make the video as realistic as possible. The screen shot shows a proper bedroom set as this was required to do enhance the music video and math the lyrics such as ‘hold me like a pillow’. This just goes to show the emphasis on mise en scene and how the music video has tried to reflect different aspects of the song through the visuals.

Two shots which you feel demonstrate that you have watched other music videos

The shot shows an extreme close up of one of the actresses used in the music video. This type of shot is used in many dance and R n B videos within this day and age. Not only does the shot show a clear close up of the actress but it also relates to the audience by showing different emotions. A similar shot has also been used in Nicole Scherzingers song ‘right there’. The second shot shows a clear link between lyrics and the visuals. This is something commonly used in almost all videos therefore this just goes to show a great deal of research has been done prior to the creation of these music videos.

A shot the shows a link between lyrics and visuals

The first shot is a clear link between the lyrics and the visuals. At this point of the song the lyrics are ‘now put your hands up’. This is exactly what the actress on screen is doing as she and the side actresses all put there hands up in the air to match the lyrics. Not only does this show the various feeling and emotions but that are trying to be portrayed to the audience but this also shows a clear connection the narrative and the lyrics themselves.

A shot that typifies the way in which a record company would like there artist to be represented.

The shot shows one way in which a music company would like there artist to be represented. The artist shown in the picture is Riana. The image shows the way in which music company would like to represent there artists within this day and age. It is clearly great detail has gone in to things such as make up and hair design and we shall also be taking these elements into account for when we produce our video.

A shot that illustrates how the music video uses music genre

The shot shows the pussy cat dolls performing as a group to the hit single ‘Buttons’ the shot clearly shows that this is a music video from a R n B / Dance genre simply because of the style of dance, dancers and the way in which the set is produced.

A shot that shows an intersexual reference

The shot shows Joe Mceldery X factor winner performing in his new video which is the back track for the latest edition of Narnia. The video goes to show different elements which reflect the story line of the film. The video creates a clear reference to the music video by showing different scene of it.

A shot that demonstrates your use of camera

The side shot shows all the artists in clever manner. Looking at this shot it is clear all the artists are of equal importance hence why they have al been shown. Moreover looking at the shot it is clear that all the girls are in band this just goes to show how the camera work could also emphasise upon the music genre.

A shot that demonstrates your use of lighting

The screen shot shows the style of lighting used in 50 cents new music video. As the song is suppose to be a club banger the video also follows on this theme. This is clear as the video is also shot in a club hence why very bright lights have been used and the atmosphere of the area has purposely been kept dark.  This just goes to show how the lighting style contributes to the narrative as well as the treatment of this music video.

A shot that demonstrates your use of mise en scene

The shot shows a scene from Nicole Scherzingers hit single ‘breathe again’. The mise en scene is used to portray the misery and the emotions that the actress feels. The flowing water in the sink connotes a flood of tears. Moreover this just goes to show how well the visuals contribute to the actual lyrics f the song.

Two shots which you feel demonstrate that you have watched other music videos

The two shot below show a close up of Nicole Scerzinger from her new hit single ‘right there’. The close up shows her emotions in contrast to the lyrics of the song. The second shot shows the special effects used Cheryl Cole’s number one single ‘fight for this love’. The special effects and the texts used help get her message across to the audience in a much better and precise way therefore this is something we can also consider using in our music videos.
