Music Video Analysis

Video: Imran Khan - Bewafa

I have chosen to analyze the latest music video launched by Imran Khan known as ‘Bewafa’.” He is a new solo singer who mainly specializes in Punjabi. Hindi and Bhangara genres of music; and this is the main reason I chose to do this as I enjoy listening to this genre of music, therefore it is something which interests me. 

Narrative

The narrative of the video is simply the singer expressing betrayal and him showing the unfaithfulness of the woman he once loved. The video starts by the introduction of the singer Imran Khan on a normal day going through his post when he finds a collection of photos of his girlfriend and another man which simply show that she has been cheating on him as she has had an affair. From there the lyrics of the song express strong emotions and video takes this further by showing a snake making a cross reference of no matter how much you love a snake and although you care for it , clean it and feed it one day it will bite you and release its venom within you like wise the singer shows the audience the same has happened to him but its not the snake who has done so; it’s the woman he once loved.  Movements snake simply symbolizes the poison which has now entered the relationship and has caused differences and conflicts between the actor and actress.

Treatment

The treatment involves the introduction of Imran Khan coming into the room and taking a seat, finding post which shows that his girlfriend has betrayed him. From there the actual video starts and the singer states the feeling of betrayal and sorrow through the lyrics of the song. Further on the video develops in his girlfriend meeting the person who she is having an affair with and after receiving a sudden call he leaves her all alone to dine with no one but her self. This is when the actress realizes how much her boyfriend (Imran Kahn) means to her so she returns home to apologies and finds the apartment in pieces where she realizes her boyfriend is aware of the affair and has now left her.   

Connection to song

The link between the song and the video is extremely strong. The lyrics of the song portray betrayal and unfaithfulness and the video only enhances this concept and takes it further by emotional scenes and the wreckage of household items which shows temper and anger. 

Mise en scene

The video consists of a range of different elements. The shoot actually took place in a very prestigious location; London Mayfair. The mise en scene portrays an extremely comfortable home and a life full of love and joy however this changes when the emotions are let loose through the lyrics of the song and the video takes the concept further by the wreckage of the home. The mise en scene, the video and the song have a strong connection. The audience is aware of this as later in the video he same comfortable home which is bounded by love is ruined and all the elements of the house which made it into a home are broken; similar to the relationship between Imran Khan and his girlfriend. The video, the mise en scene and the song simply show perfection turn into imperfection. The mise en scene changes throughout the video just like the location of shoot. The second part of the video basically shows the actress (the girlfriend of Imran Kahn) having a candle light dinner with man who she is cheating with. The mise en scene portrays lust, sex and romance and this is visible through the props and the atmosphere as it is shot at night where both actors are together at a table with candles on it.

The video compromises a range of different shots. In the beginning of the video a large amount of close ups are used, I believe this is done so the audience is aware who the main character and singer is. As the video develops, there are a rage of different shots are visible. Many establishing shots are used in order to show the comforting scenery turn into ruble just like the relationship between the singer and his girl friend.
